What is GOTS certification and why do we use it for Outside(r) Pants

When someone says organic clothing today, it can mean a lot of things. Sometimes, truly high-quality material with traceable origins. Other times, just a nice label that appears more eco than it actually is. And that's exactly why GOTS certification exists. Not as another green stamp for the collection, but as a way to know that with textiles, it's not just about the nice word "organic," but about a genuinely controlled standard across production.
For our Outside(r) Pants, we use organic GOTS certified ripstop cotton because we didn't want to just make another pair of pants from plastic and without certification. We wanted a material that makes sense for the body, outdoors, in the city, and in how it's made.
What does GOTS mean?
GOTS, or Global Organic Textile Standard, is one of the most well-known and strictest certifications for organic textiles. It doesn't just address whether cotton is organic. It monitors the entire production process—from fiber cultivation to processing, dyeing, and the final textile product.
Simply put:
GOTS helps verify that organic textiles are produced according to clear environmental and social rules.
Why is GOTS certification important?
There's a lot of clothing on the market that claims to be natural, eco-friendly, or sustainable. But not everything that's beige and has a nice story is truly a more environmentally friendly choice.
With GOTS certified clothing, you can be sure that:
-
the material comes from organic fibers,
-
chemical substances are monitored during production,
-
the processing has clear ecological rules,
-
the supply chain must also meet social standards.

And that's exactly why GOTS is important to us. We don't want to make clothes that just look good. We want to make clothes that make sense beneath the surface.
Why do we use GOTS cotton for Outside(r) Pants?
Our Outside(r) Pants are not classic synthetic outdoor pants. We wanted to create pants that would be functional, durable, comfortable on the body, and made from a material we trust.
That's why we chose organic GOTS certified ripstop cotton.
The ripstop structure gives the fabric tear and snag resistance, while organic cotton provides natural comfort, breathability, and a pleasant feel when worn.
The result?
Pants that can handle the outdoors, the city, travel, and everyday chaos—without looking like rustling outdoor uniforms.
