What is GRS certification and why does our Performance Trail Tee have it?

When you say recycled clothing, it sounds good. But with textiles, it's always important to ask further questions:
Where does the recycled material come from? Can its origin be traced? And is the whole process somehow controlled?
That's why there's GRS certification, or Global Recycled Standard.
What does GRS mean?
GRS certification is an international standard for products made from recycled materials. It verifies that the material genuinely contains a recycled component and that its origin is traceable throughout the supply chain. GRS helps to control where the recycled material comes from, how it is processed, and how it makes its way into the final product. It also includes requirements for environmental and social production criteria and limits certain chemical substances during processing.
For a product to be under the GRS – Global Recycled Standard, it must contain a minimum of 20% recycled material. If GRS is communicated to the customer on the final product, the product must have a minimum of 50% recycled content.
This means that when a material is GRS certified, it's not just a vague "recycled" claim. The recycled content must be traceable and controlled throughout the entire supply chain — from the raw material through processing to the final textile.

Why is GRS important for sportswear?
Sportswear often uses technical synthetic materials. They are lightweight, functional, durable, and perform well during movement. However, problems often arise when their origin and end-of-life are considered.
And that's precisely why for our Performance Trail Tee, it wasn't enough for the material to just perform well during running, on the trail, or in the mountains. We also wanted it to make sense in terms of where it comes from.
A T-shirt that can return
On every Performance Trail Tee, you'll find a QR code. When the T-shirt has run its course, you've worn it out, or it's no longer in a condition you want to wear, you can scan the QR code and return it to us at Marylu.
We will then send it back for recycling, together with NIL Textile in Ostrava, so that the material can get another life.
GRS certification confirms the beginning of the story — that the material comes from verified recycled sources.
The circular system with the QR code addresses its end, so the T-shirt doesn't have to end up as textile waste.

The Performance Trail Tee is our answer to what a new generation of sustainable sports T-shirt can look like. Lightweight. Functional. Recycled. Circular. And ready to get back in the game. 🌿
